Around 90 golfers, including Hall of Fame/Eclipse-winning jockeys Angel Cordero Jr., John Velazquez, Ramon Dominguez, Jacinto Vasquez, Javier Castellano; Hall of Fame trainer Shug McGaughey; and former National Football League coaches Bill Parcells and Dan Henning participated in the inaugural Tee-Off for TRF/PDJF charity golf outing at McGregor Links Country Club Tuesday. Parcells was the tournament's top player and also won the putting contest.
“This was a great day to help two causes that are very near and dear to my heart,” said former jockey, NYRA on-air analyst and TRF board member Richard Migliore, who hosted the event. “Everyone here owes something to the horses. Certainly the jockeys, and certainly Saratoga itself, as horses are what attracts visitors here every summer. Horses need safe homes when they are through racing.” He continued, “The PDJF is also important to me. I have had many injuries during my racing career, and I have been lucky just to be here. But there are a lot of my fellow jockeys who sustained injuries that not only ended their careers, but changed their lives and their families' lives as well. I am grateful to everyone who came out today to make this a success and to, hopefully, start a new annual tradition here.”
TRF Director of External Affairs Diana Pikulski added, “We are so grateful to our sponsors and to everyone who made this a wonderful, fun day of golf. Everyone recognized the chance to help two worthy cases and their generosity and cooperation was highly appreciated. It was so much fun that we are all looking forward to doing it again next year.”
