'Boat' All Set For Irish Champion

My Dream Boat | Racing Post

Clive Cox reports his G1 Prince Of Wales's S. winner My Dream Boat (Ire) (Lord Shanakill) in great shape ahead of next Saturday's G1 QIPCO Irish Champions S. at Leopardstown. A shock winner of that Royal Ascot contest in June, Paul & Clare Rooney's colt is on a retrieval mission following his tame effort when fifth behind Hawkbill (Kitten's Joy) in the G1 Coral Eclipse at Sandown. Following that run Cox decided to concentrate on an autumn campaign with the 4-year-old and feels he has benefited from a mid-season break. “I'm pleased he's had a break, he finished off his campaign nicely last year and I very much hope he can do the same this year,” said Cox. “He's just a very able individual and his progress throughout the last year has been hugely impressive. What he achieved at Ascot was obviously very pleasing and I'm just glad to have him.” Whatever My Dream Boat achieves in future will be a bonus for connections. Originally bought for just €3,500 as a weanling, he was resold as a yearling for €16,000 and as a 2-year-old for £40,000, providing profit for each trader along the way, spectacularly so for the Rooneys for whom he has banked over £500,000 in prizemoney.
