Midterm Prix Niel-Bound

Khalid Abdullah's Midterm (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), considered among the favourites for the G1 Investec Derby before finishing fifth in the G2 Dante S. and failing to the make the blue riband, could be back in action in Sunday's G2 Prix Niel at Chantilly. The bay has not been seen since the Dante May 12.

“Midterm has been going nicely at home and has various options in the coming weeks,” said Khalid Abdullah's Racing Manager Teddy Grimthorpe. “As it stands, his primary one at the moment looks like being the Prix Niel on Sunday. That looks likely at this stage, although there are still a few i's to dot and t's to cross.”

Grimthorpe added, “Because he is running in an Arc trial does not mean we are thinking of running him in the Arc itself, but on the other hand we're not saying he can't either. He's obviously been off a while so we'll just have to see how he gets on.”

Midterm has had just three starts, breaking his maiden at first asking at Newbury in October and winning Sandown's G3 Classic Trial first-up Apr. 22, and Grimthorpe predicted he could stay in training next year.

“Given we haven't really seen what he is capable of, I'd have said there's a good chance he'll be staying in training but ultimately that will be down to the Prince to decide,” he said.
