Like the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe meeting, Arqana's Arc Sale has a temporary new home for this year while Longchamp undergoes redevelopment and will be held at the Chantilly stable currently used by Robert Collet, which was formerly owned by Marcel Boussac and was once home to such equine greats as Pharis, Teddy, Djebel and Tourbillon.
The 56-strong catalogue, which could be supplemented by up to 15 wild-card entries, includes 39 horses to have earned black type on the racecourse, with 19 Group or Listed winners among them.
All eyes will be on the G1 Ladbrokes St Leger today and one of the runners, the Andrew Balding-trained Ormito (Ger) (Mamool {Ire}), is likely to have his next outing in the sales ring as he is catalogued as lot 63. Also in action this weekend is Darabad (Fr) (Dansili {GB}), who lines up for the G2 Qatar Prix Niel on Sunday, and the Listed winner will be another to come under the hammer in Chantilly as lot 37. His fellow Aga Khan-bred Dounyapour (Fr) (Lope De Vega {Ire}), runner-up in the G3 Prix de Lutece, is also catalogued (lot 39).
Among the fillies on offer is the consistent Furia Cruzada (Chi) (Newfoundland) (lot 62), who joined John Goden's Newmarket stable from Chile this season and has finished runner-up in both the G2 Duke Of Cambridge S. and G2 Lancashire Oaks. Another Group 2-placed filly to be sold is the Pascal Bary-trained Mango Tango (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) (lot 17), who chased home Highlands Queen (Fr) (Mount Nelson {GB}) in the Prix de Pomone at Deauville last month.
Recent graduates of the Arc Sale include this season's GI Man o'War S. winner Wake Forest (Ger) (Sir Percy {GB}), who left Andreas Wohler to join Chad Brown's stable after being sold for €140,000 last October. Popular stayer Max Dynamite (Fr) (Great Journey {JPN}), winner of the G2 Lonsdale Cup and runner-up in the G1 Melbourne Cup, was bought from the previous year's sale for €200,000.
Arqana will be running a shuttle bus service after racing on Saturday, Oct. 1 from the owners' car park at Chantilly Racecourse to the sales yard at Cour Pharis, 32 aveneue Marie-Amelie, 60500 Chantilly. The sale commences at 6pm and horses will be available for inspection from Friday, Sept. 30.
