Bomb Threat

Aidan O'Brien has made a point of bringing a strong representation to Irish Champions weekend and Saturday's G2 Clipper Logistics Boomerang S. or Solonaway S. at Leopardstown is no exception with last year's GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf hero Hit It A Bomb (War Front) aiming to build on a solid comeback effort.

Third behind Godolphin's Tribal Beat (Ire) (Street Cry {Ire}) on his belated seasonal bow in the G3 Desmond S. over this course and distance Aug. 11, Evie Stockwell's homebred was meeting with defeat for the first time and can be expected to improve off that run.

Even allowing for improvement, he still has to contend with the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas hero Awtaad (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}). Since that career-defining victory in the May 21 Curragh Classic, Sheikh Hamdan Rashid Al Maktoum's homebred has failed to go on with a third placing in the G1 St James's Palace S. at Royal Ascot June 14 and eighth in the G1 Sussex S. at Glorious Goodwood July 27.

Trainer Kevin Prendergast said, “He has a three-pound penalty and it's tough–all those races are tough. Hopefully he'll run a good race and if all goes well, he'll go to the Champion Stakes meeting at Ascot [for the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S.]. If we had him in training next year, I would love to try him over further.”
