Cover Up

Third in The Curragh's G2 Derrinstown Stud Flying Five S. 12 months ago, Take Cover (GB) (Singspiel {GB}) returns to front the latest renewal on Sunday in arguably the form of his life.

Battling to a neck verdict over Washington DC (Ire) (Zoffany {Ire}) for a second win in Glorious Goodwood's G2 King George S. over this trip July 29, Norcroft Park Stud's veteran trailblazer was third in the G1 Nunthorpe S. at York last time Aug. 19 and will be hard to pass if remaining in that kind of form.

“We were delighted with him in the Nunthorpe,” trainer David Griffiths said. “It was his first placing in a group one and it was behind the two top sprinters in Europe. He has come out of that race really well and Sunday's race looks tough, as you would expect with such good money on offer, but he ran well there last year and we are hopeful that we are going over there with a chance. We wouldn't want too much rain for him and for it to go heavy. He ran really well on soft ground last year but the track was in such amazing condition, it was like a carpet and when I walked it, it felt like good ground.”

His 2015 conqueror Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) has looked on the wane of late, but that was also the case last year and a big effort could be on the cards from the five-times group 1 winner provided the ground does not deteriorate significantly.
