Living the Life (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) looks to take home the GII Presque Isle Downs Masters trophy for the third straight year Monday evening. Winner of this event in 2014 and 2015, the Gary Mandella pupil was third in both the Feb. 13 GII Santa Maria S. and Mar. 19 GI Santa Margarita S. on the Santa Anita main track earlier this term. Failing to fire when 11th in the turfy GII Royal Heroine S. there May 5, the bay returned to winning ways in the GIII All American S. May 30 on the Golden Gate synthetic and was a non-factor seventh back on the dirt in Arcadia's Southern Truce S. July 3.
Ivan Dalos's lightly-raced Elusive Collection (Elusive Quality), winner of last term's Etobicoke S., has been knocking at the door of a graded win and could break through here. Fourth in both the Feb. 27 Sand Springs S. and Apr. 2 GII Honey Fox S. at Gulfstream, the Josie Carroll trainee was second last time in the GIII Seaway S. on the Woodbine synthetic Aug. 27.
The Dale Romans-trained Birdatthewire (Summer Bird) looks to get back on track here. Winner of the GI La Brea S. at the end of last term, the Forum Racing IV colorbearer checked in fifth behind recently-retired “TDN Rising Star” Taria (Flatter) in the GI Humana Distaff at Churchill May 7 and was third in both Gulfstream's GII Princess Rooney S. July 2 and Monmouth Park's GII Molly Pitcher S. July 31. She was last seen running on late to be fourth in the GI Ballerina S. at Saratoga Aug. 27.
