A total of 26 horses, including four also eligibles, have signed on for split divisions of the GIII Eddie D. S. on opening Friday at Santa Anita. The races will serve as course-and-distance preps for the GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint Nov. 5, and the first of the two divisions features early Turf Sprint favorite and 'TDN Rising Star' Lady Shipman (Midshipman) trying Santa Anita's quirky downhill turf course for the first time. Second by a neck in last year's Turf Sprint–contested at 5 1/2 flat furlongs at Keeneland–the Randall Lowe homebred has won five of her seven starts this term, including back-to-back victories in the GIII Royal North S. at Woodbine July 31 and Parx's Turf Amazon S. last out Sept. 6. The Kiaran McLaughlin pupil faces the likes of speedy sophomore and fellow 'Rising Star' Justin Squared (Zensational), who makes his turf debut; and Hunt (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}), who sports a 5-4-0-1 record down the hill. The second division of the Eddie D. includes local graded winners Guns Loaded (D'wildcat) and Toowindytohaulrox (Harlan's Holiday); and another streaking 4-year-old filly in So Sweetitiz (Grand Slam), who earned her third-straight victory in the Daisycutter H. at Del Mar Aug. 5.
