New Stallion Duo For Derrinstown

Awtaad | Peter Mooney

Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Derrinstown Stud in Kildare has bolstered it's stallion ranks with the addition of both Awtaad (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and Markaz (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) for the 2017 season. Awtaad, bred by Sheikh Hamdan out of the winning stakes placed mare Asheerah (GB) (Shamardal), has proved a top class miler for trainer Kevin Prendergast winning the G1 Tattersalls 2000 Guineas and was last seen racing to an authoritative victory in the G2 Clipper Logistics Boomerang S. at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend. Markaz, trained by Owen Burrows, has proved a classy and consistent sprinter registering a brace of Group 3 wins in addition to multiple placings at Group 2 level. He is out of the stakes placed six-time winner Folga (GB) (Atraf {GB}) which makes him a full-brother to brilliant sprinter Mecca's Angel (Ire) (Dark Angel). A fee will be announced at a later date for both stallions who join Tamayuz (GB) (Nayef) and Haatef (Danzig) on the Derrinstown roster.
