Poet's Voice Filly Strikes In the Oh So Sharp

Poet's Vanity | Racing Post

Fourth on debut behind Wuheida (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Spatial (GB) (New Approach {Ire}) over this trip on the July Course Aug. 6, Poet's Vanity was impressive when off the mark by 10 lengths dropped to six furlongs at Salisbury last time Sept. 1 and translated that style into substance to capture a strong edition of this prize. Pulling her way to the fore early, the bay soon settled for a lead and when committed with a quarter mile remaining showed resilience to ward off Glitter Girl and ignite Classic dreams. “She probably didn't learn a lot the last day at Salisbury, so you have to be delighted with her,” jockey Oisin Murphy commented. “That was very encouraging–she didn't handle the 'dip' particularly well and I got there soon enough, but we knew she stays a mile. She has a lot of scope for next year.” Trainer Andrew Balding added, “She's really one to look forward to next year. She showed she handles the track, so it's exciting to think she might come back here in May. I had to work her with a colt last week, as she was demoralising the other fillies. We've got some nice two-year-olds going into next year and hopefully they'll bring each other on.” Cheveley Park Stud's managing director Chris Richardson said of Glitter Girl, “She's just kept improving and is as game as a pebble. We might drop her back to a stiff six or keep her to a very easy seven.”

The winner is a half-sister to the G3 Ballyogan S. winner and G1 Golden Jubilee S. and G1 Prix Maurice de Gheest third Lesson In Humility, later the dam of the Listed Marble Hill S. winner and G2 Norfolk S. runner-up Coach House (Ire) (Oasis Dream {GB}), as well as the smart sprinter Boastful who was second in the G3 Chipchase S. The second dam is a half to the listed winner Ffestiniog (Ire) (Efisio {GB}), responsible for Elite Racing Club's pattern-race winners Eisteddfod (GB) (Cadeaux Genereux {GB}), Boston Lodge (GB) (Grand Lodge) and Border Patrol (GB) (Selkirk). The dam also has a yearling half-sister by Rip Van Winkle (Ire) to follow.
