Fascinating Rock Retired To Ballylinch

Fascinating Rock (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}–Miss Polaris {GB}, by Polar Falcon), who won a pair of Group 1s racing as a homebred for Newtown Anner Stud and trainer Dermot Weld, has been retired to Ballylinch Stud and will stand for €10,000 next year. Ballylinch Managing Director John O'Connor said, “We are delighted that owner/breeder Maurice Regan of Newtown Anner Stud will partner with Ballylinch to develop Fascinating Rock's stud career, and both will hold a sizeable interest in him with the remaining shares being syndicated among breeders.”

A dual Group 3 winner at three, Fascinating Rock rose to prominence last year when besting Found (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Qipco Champion S. He had that same rival back in second when winning this year's G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup. He won a total of seven stakes races, including six group wins.

“Fascinating Rock was an outstanding horse to train,” said Weld. “A true champion and multiple Group 1 winner, he defeated the best horses in the world from Postponed to Found. A good stakes winner over a mile, he had the ability to carry that speed to win two Group 1 races over 10 furlongs. Great conformation, size and scope and a lovely temperament.”

Regan added “I really love Fascinating Rock and will be putting all my efforts into supporting him both at stud and at the sales. I am really looking forward to racing his progeny.”
