The California Horse Racing Board has confirmed the Nov. 5 GI Breeders' Cup Sprint has not “been cleared,” by the testing laboratory and the purse of the race has not been distributed, but would provide no additional information.
“We have not gotten back word from the laboratory that all the tests from that race are cleared,” CHRB spokesman Mike Marten said Wednesday. “The executive director [Rick Baedeker] indicated, it would be cleared by mid-December.”
Drefong (Gio Ponti) turned back favored Masochistic (Sought After) at midstretch to win the six-furlong race by 1 1/4 lengths, with Mind Your Biscuits (Posse) third.
A statement released Wednesday by the Breeders' Cup, read, “Breeders' Cup has been advised by the California Horse Racing Board that 12 of 13 races from this year's event at Santa Anita, not including the Breeders' Cup Sprint, have been cleared following post-race testing by the Maddy Laboratory at the University of California at Davis. Inquiries relating to testing results or regulatory proceedings should be directed to the CHRB.”
