Payne Approved To Ride In Queensland

Michelle Payne | Racing and Sports

Melbourne Cup-winning jockey turned trainer Michelle Payne, who has failed in her battles with Racing NSW to hold a dual riding and training license, was on Tuesday approved for such a license in Queensland, according to Racing.com. Payne holds a dual license in her home state of Victoria, but such licenses are not permitted in New South Wales. Those rules will bar Payne from riding Husson Eagle (Aus) (Husson {Arg}), a 5-year-old gelding trained by her brother Patrick, at Rosehill this weekend, but Payne is now expected to be in the saddle when the bay lines up on the Magic Millions Raceday on the Gold Coast in January.

“They [the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission] have been most supportive and helpful in finding a pathway through and I am really grateful for that,” Payne told Racing.com. “I can't wait to ride Husson Eagle on Magic Millions Day. Magic Millions Day is one of the great days on the Australian racing calendar, and it will be fantastic to be a part of it.”
