Getaway Son Tops At Cheltenham

Margaret O'Toole | Racing Post

A son of Coolmore stallion Getaway (Ger) (Monsun {Ger}) was the star of the Tattersalls December Cheltenham Sale on Friday when selling to Margaret O'Toole for £305,000. Cool Getaway (Ire), offered by trainer Stuart Crawford as lot 15 won a 4-year-old maiden point to point at Tattersalls Farm on debut last month and showed a fine return on his €40,000 purchase price by Roy Wilson at the Goffs Land Rover Sale last year. Overall 46 of the 55 offered lots changed hands for a total of £3,178,300 and an average of £69,093 and a median of £50,000. A number of French consigned lots added some spice to proceedings and lot 12 Poker Play (Fr) (Martaline {GB}) came the way of David Pipe after his successful bid of £280,000. The well-bred 3-year-old had already shown a high level of ability winning a hurdle at Enghien on his second run last month.
