+WAVES OF BLUE (f, 2, Quality Road–Cayuga's Waters {SW, $194,422}, by Langfuhr) backed up a strong worktab and showed big gate speed en route to a debut score in the slop at Gulfstream. Showing some eye-popping local breezes, including a five-furlong move from the gate in :59 3/5 (2/14) Nov. 13, the $210,000 Fasig-Tipton August buy caught a flyer at 21-10 and was ahead by multiple lengths almost immediately after leaving the blocks. Running clear through splits of :22.27 and :45.24, the bay widened away strongly by the eighth pole before starting to get a bit leg-weary late in the proceedings. Seam (Union Rags), the favored firster from the red-hot Todd Pletcher barn, put in a good late close, but Waves of Blue had built up too big of a cushion and held for a 1 1/2-length graduation. The victress, slated to sell at OBS January, is a half to Glorious View (Pleasant Tap), GSW, $307,190; Cascadilla Falls (E Dubai), SW, $140,310; and Highball (Lemon Drop Kid), MGSP, $229,471. Her stakes-winning dam is responsible for a yearling filly by Giant's Causeway who sold for $235,000 at Fasig-Tipton August, and was bred to Bernardini this spring. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $21,600.
