Officials at Kentucky Downs have announced that the race formerly contested as the More Than Ready Mile S. has been renamed the Tourist Mile S., to honor the winner of the 2016 GI Breeders' Cup Mile. The event, captured by Tourist (Tiznow) in 2015, will be worth $400,000.

“To see a former winner of one of our marquee stakes races go on to defeat nine Grade 1 winners from around the world in the fastest Breeders' Cup Mile ever on record, it just reaffirms the level of racing and everything we are doing here at Kentucky Downs,” said Corey Johnsen, President of Kentucky Downs. “Tourist is one of the best horses ever to race at Kentucky Downs, and it was only fitting to rename the event he won to honor him.”

Added WinStar President and CEO Elliott Walden: “We are honored Corey and his team have decided to rename this prestigious race after our dual Grade 1 winner Tourist. As with everything at Kentucky Downs, the sky is the limit.”

More Than Ready, Tiznow and Tourist each stands at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Kentucky.
