Jockey Killed In New Zealand

New Zealand jockey Rebecca Black has died after being involved in a fall at Gore Racecourse on Sunday. The 40-year-old mother of three was aboard Point Proven (NZ) (Keeper {Aus}), who was involved in a spill along with another horse at the 700-metre mark. The rider on the other horse, Misscattlecreek (NZ) (Danske {NZ}), escaped serious injury.

Police confirmed a jockey's death shortly after 4 p.m. and the remainder of the The Tapanui Racing Club meeting was abandoned. New Zealand Thoroughbred Racing Chief Executive Greg Purcell said, “All our thoughts are with Rebecca's family and friends at this dreadful time.”
