Saratoga Maidens, presented by Keeneland: 'As Long As He Can Run, You Can Call Him Anything You Want' – Ned Toffey Celebrates Ted Noffey

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Many of the smiles and chuckles following Ted Noffey's victory in the first race at Saratoga Race Course Saturday had very little to do with his solid 1 1/2-length victory. They were about his name, which was the result of a very simple but humorous mistake, as his, err, namesake Ned Toffey explained. Toffey, for 21 years the general manager of Spendthrift Farm, which owns Ted Noffey, was chosen as Kentucky's Farm Manager of the Year in 2024, an honor that started the story. "One of...

Donut God Awfully Crisp In Inaugural Stakes At Tampa

Donut God (Into Mischief) tasted sweet success with his first victory at the stakes level in the Inaugural Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. Last seen getting his picture taken on unveiling Nov. 14 at Churchill Downs over a sloppy main track, it was much drier for this Listed debut as the 4-5 favorite. Sprinting out to a clear lead after the break, he posted :22.54 and a half in :45.12 largely unchallenged. Working with a clear advantage entering the lane, he had enough left to hold off Naughty Rascal (Rogueish)....

Leading Louisiana Stallion Half Ours Euthanized

Half Ours (Unbridled's Song--Zing, by Storm Cat), a four-time leading sire in Louisiana, was euthanized Saturday, July 17, following a paddock accident at Clear Creek Stud. He was 18 years old. "It is a sad day for us all," said Clear Creek's Val Murrell. "Half Ours enriched our breeders' program in Louisiana and beyond, having touched many who bred and raced. He was obviously an integral part of Clear Creek Stud's very existence, like a family member that you saw every day. His loss will be felt by many and...
