Bowen Suspended 30 Days for 'Intentional' Bumping at Belterra; Penalty Halved for Not Appealing

Rocco Bowen was suspended 30 days by the stewards at Belterra Park Tuesday for "intentionally" engaging in "rough riding" when finishing second aboard the 3-10 favorite during the stretch run of the $75,000 Miss Southern Ohio Stakes last Friday. But because the veteran jockey has agreed not to appeal the ruling, the penalty has been cut in half, to 15 days. Jockey Albin Jimenez Suspended One Year For Belterra Ride

Following a review of his ride from race two at Belterra Thursday, Aug, 21, current leading local jockey Albin Jimenez has been suspended for one year by the Belterra Park board of stewards. The race in question featured Jimenez failing to put forth his best effort aboard 3-5 Afleet Vintage (Afleet Alex) where he ultimately wound up second. The winner, Permit to Carry, was ridden by Summer Pauly. The stewards looked at the race following a request from Afleet Vintage's trainer Tommy Drury who was unhappy with Jimenez's ride.  ...

Two Indiana Grand Jockeys Transported to Hospital After Spill

Three jockeys, Agustin Gomez, Albin Jimenez and Joe Ramos, were involved in a racing incident just after the start of the fourth race at Indiana Grand Wednesday, June 17. As a result, Jimenez and Gomez were each transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis with non-life-threatening injuries for further evaluation. Ramos walked back to the jockey's quarters following inspection by on-track medical personnel. Lichita, ridden by Agustin Gomez, fell after clipping heels along the inside rail, unseating Gomez.
