Champion and Dual Classic Winner Afleet Alex Dies at 24

Afleet Alex (Northern Afleet--Maggy Hawk, by Hawkster), the 2005 Champion 3-Year-Old Male and winner of both the GI Preakness and GI Belmont Stakes, was euthanized on Feb. 6 due to the infirmities of old age. He was 24. Afleet Alex will be buried at Gainesway. Retired to stud at Gainesway in 2006, he remained as a resident pensioner since 2022. Delaware Park Raises $12K for Alex's Lemonade Stand

Following a month-long fundraising effort, Delaware Park presented a check in the amount of $12,000 to the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), designated as the charity of the month for June. Jay Scott, the father of Alex Scott, accepted the check on behalf of the foundation, which supports funding research to find a cure for childhood cancer, an area which remains underfunded, according to ALSF.
