Constitution at WinStar Farm
Saturday Sires: Constitution

He has a name as American as apple pie. How fitting then that Constitution has had a big week (and month) leading up to the Independence Day holiday. The WinStar Farm stallion's 'TDN Rising Star' Mindframe won his second Grade I of the year--one of just five horses to do so--in Saturday's GI Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs over a star-studded field while notching a 105 Beyer Speed Figure. Less than 24 hours later, Constitution's Pin Up Betty added the Anchorage Overnight Stakes in Louisville after also winning the...

Standing in partnership with WinStar Farm, CHC Inc., Taylor Made Stallions, Mill Creek Farm and Fortune Farm, Grade I winner Americanrevolution (Constitution) will stand for a fee of $12,500 in his first year at stud at Rockridge Stud in Hudson, New York. Bred in New York by leading breeders Fred W. Hertrich and John D. Fielding, the chestnut was the top 3-year-old of his generation in the state-bred ranks in 2021, winning the Empire Classic by nearly 12 lengths before validating favoritism in the GI Cigar Mile H. He was...

The Todd Pletcher trainee was a four-time stakes winner at three, culminating in the $750,000 GI Cigar Mile H. as he registered a Beyer Speed Figure of 105. "This is the best horse to retire in New York in a very long time," said Rockridge Stud's Lere Visagie. "We all know we need...

Speightstown's Olympiad Triumphs in JCGC

Grandview Equine, Cheyenne Stable and LNJ Foxwoods's Olympiad (Speightstown), a head-scratching fourth in the GI Whitney S., bounced back with a powerful performance in Saturday's 'Win and You're In' GI Jockey Club Gold Cup at Saratoga. The 8-5 favorite jumped well from his inside draw and sat a perfect, stalking trip in second behind longshot pacesetter Tax (Arch) through fractions of :24.54 and :49.70. Racing in between rivals as last year's GI Cigar Mile H. winner Americanrevolution (Constitution), one of four entered for Todd Pletcher, continued to draw closer heading...

All Eyes on Flightline In Pacific Classic

There is no such thing as a sure thing in horse racing, but 'TDN Rising Star' Flightline (Tapit) will be bet as if Saturday's GI TVG Pacific Classic--a 'Win and You're In' qualifier for the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Keeneland Nov. 5--is already the proverbial fait accompli. And why not, really? His four towering victories in as many trips to the races have come by an average winning margin of better than 13 lengths. His lowest Beyer Speed Figure is a downright pedestrian 105 earned for his debut just...

The Sisters Green

Todd Pletcher was in a chipper mood one morning in his office near Saratoga's Oklahoma training track when I asked him about the Green sisters. "Which one?" Pletcher replied, wryly. "The one right outside the door." "Oh, the brown-noser," Pletcher said with a laugh. "Do you want to listen in, Sophie?" "No," said the mocking English voice from the other side of the glass door. "I will never say anything nice about you again!" Meet Sophie Green, the elder of the Green sisters, the younger being Amelia. The two sisters...

Life is Good for Pletcher Heading into the Whitney

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - At this time last year, trainer Todd Pletcher and his staff were getting to know Life Is Good (Into Mischief). Up next for Life Is Good in a season that could yield an Eclipse Award and possibly even a Horse of the Year title is the $1-million GI Whitney S. Saturday at Saratoga Race Course. The historic Whitney, first run...
