Who's Red-Hot At Royal Ascot And What Superstar Does Fitzdares Want To Lay?

Betting firm Fitzdares say that St James's Palace Stakes hotpot Bow Echo (Night Of Thunder) is the best backed horse on day one at Royal Ascot - but trader Mark Cancea revealed that Venetian Sun, as short as 2-1 favourite for the Commonwealth Cup, is by far the most popular horse in the ante-post wagering for the meeting on the whole.  Punters seem to believe that 2,000 Guineas winner Bow Echo is the real deal, according to Cancea, who said Fitzdares have seen one-way traffic for George Boughey's stable star...

Lehman CAW Bill Introduced, Tough Road In Republican-led State Legislature

Last November, Democratic Kentucky state representative Matt Lehman told the TDN he was considering legislative intervention in an effort to curb computer assisted wagering (CAW) play in the state to a more equitable standard for all players. The debate around CAW players typically surrounds the edge they wield over regular gamblers thanks to their use of sophisticated technologies that allow them to precisely read the markets and to place massive wagers across many pools in the final seconds of betting--which can lead to extreme late odds changes--as well as the...

Racing in 2036: Peter Alafonginis

Peter Alafonginis, owner, Northern Tier Farm I foresee only approximately five major tracks open in the USA and a few smaller one-mile tracks for the second-tier horse. They will have, dirt, grass and synthetic surfaces at each of the major venues. And their lesser counterparts will hopefully have a combination of surfaces as well. Steeplechase venues will grow in number and quality, incorporating a country-club environment with clubhouse and parimutuel betting. These facilities will combine other aspects of the Thoroughbreds' life after racing. Equitation, shows, hunt events, even polo on...

Many projected a rosy future for the sport. The same sport that has many problems, some of them that will be very difficult to solve. What was lacking in the series...
