Cody's Wish Picks Up Right Where He Left Off

Making his first start since taking out last year's GI Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, Cody's Wish (Curlin) became the third Grade I winner of the weekend for Godolphin--each for a different trainer--with a worst-to-first victory in Saturday's GI Churchill Downs S. He completed a sweep of the day's seven-furlong events after Matareya (Pioneerof the Nile) caused a minor upset in the Derby City Distaff and was adding to the wide-trip success of 'TDN Rising Star' Pretty Mischievous (Into Mischief) in Friday's GI Longines Kentucky Oaks. Back markers had been facing...

He galloped out six furlongs in 1:13. "I thought it went very well," trainer Bill Mott said of the work. "That's racehorse time for this track. War Like Goddess Takes a Historic Third Straight Bewitch Stakes at Keeneland

Racegoers can be forgiven a bit of deju vu when War Like Goddess (m, 6, English Channel--Misty North, by North Light {Ire}) won the GIII Bewitch S. at Keeneland Friday as it was, indeed, the third straight year she won the race. She is only the third horse in Keeneland history--and first in nearly 50 years--to win the same race at the storied Central Kentucky track three consecutive times. The five-horse field broke with recent GIII La Prevoyante S. winner Personal Best (Tapit) tumbling out of the stalls, but the...

Mage Benefits From Feet Of Clay

Mage. It's not a word you come across too often, though its roots are obviously entwined with those of "magus"--as in the three magi, the wise men who followed the star from the east-and indeed "magician." It denotes one of deep learning, sometimes to an occult degree. And if the horse bearing that name (a son of Good Magic, it hardly needs adding) should happen to win the GI Kentucky Derby, then perhaps we should view the man responsible for bringing him into the world as aptly honored. Because just...

He finished even with his stablemate at the wire and galloped out several lengths in front through six furlongs in 1:14.20. "It was a nice, steady work," trainer Bill...

Frost Point Closes For Doubledogdare Score

The only 5-year-old facing a field of younger fillies, Frost Point (Frosted) proved age is just a number with a come-from-behind effort to win her first graded stakes in the GIII Baird Doubledogdare S. at Keeneland Friday. Last seen rolling to a 6 1/4-length win in gate-to-wire fashion in the Heavenly Prize Invitational at Aqueduct Feb. 23 and racing in the royal blue of owner/breeder Godolphin, the bay daughter of another prolific homebred was away a step off and patiently handled by Flavien Prat at the rear of the field...

Juddmonte's Scylla Becomes Latest 'Rising Star' For Tapit

The latest royally-bred filly to hit the track for owner/breeder Juddmonte Farm, Scylla (Tapit) lived up to her illustrious connections with a 2 1/2-length score on debut at Keeneland Saturday. Despite being the full-sister to current Taylor Made stallion Tacitus, MGSW & MGISP, $3,767,350, Scylla earned only 5-2 billing--going off as the second choice in the wagering behind the more experienced Zeitlos (Curlin). A step slow from the blocks, the bay found herself in eighth with only a handful of rivals beaten as Miss Arlington (Mark Valeski) paced the field...

AMARETTI (f, 4, Bernardini--Caramel Snap, by Smart Strike), last seen a debut second June 5 at Belmont, returned to the races in this spot as the even-money favorite. Tracking just to the inside of pacesetter The Princess Says (Collected), the homebred shot through an opening along the rail into the far turn and never looked back in a seven length romp over the pursuing Kid's Last Laugh (Practical Joke). The filly's GSW second dam Fast Cookie (Deputy Minister) is...

Pin Oak Stud's Empirestrikesfast (Empire Maker) has been added to the list of late Triple Crown nominations. The connections paid the $6,000 before Monday's deadline, but the colt's name was inadvertently omitted from the list of 12 others published Tuesday.
