Cape Yearling Catalogue Released

The catalogue for the Cape Yearling Sale is now online, Bloodstock South Africa announced on Wednesday. Slated to be held at the Mistico Equestrian Centre on Feb. 28, 189 horses will go under then hammer. Saturday's second and final session of the Bloodstock South Africa National Yearling sale saw seven additional seven-figure (Rand) lots added to the top of the price list. Bloodstock South Africa has launched its digital online sales platform, with the inaugural monthly BSA digital sale slated to begin June 5 and continue through noon, June 11. Entries opened yesterday (May 28) and close at noon, June 1. The sale will be held on a monthly basis: the first Friday of each month, and will close on the following Thursday at midday. South Africa's National Sale Delayed Until July

Bloodstock South Africa's National Yearling Sale in Johannesburg, initially put off until May from its traditional mid-April calendar slot, has been postponed to July 30 to Aug. 1. Depending on COVID-19 restrictions, the sale will either be staged in a traditional format with no restrictions, with limited attendees or virtually if a lockdown is still in place. Soft Falling Rain Colts Top Cape Sale

A pair of colts by the late Soft Falling Rain (SAf) topped Bloodstock South Africa's Cape Yearling Sale at the Mistico Equestrian Centre on Friday. Both bought by Pound Bloodstock, they fetched R360,000 (£17,979/€20,633) and R300,000 (£14,987/€17,194). The local Group 1 winner and group winner in Dubai and England also topped this sale with his progeny in 2018 and 2019. The aggregate for 118 yearlings sold was R7,905,000 (£394,355/€452,440), and while that figure was down 22.2% with a slightly smaller offering than last year, the average rose 3.1% to R66,992...
