Deceased HOF Jockeys To Be Honored At Jockeys And Jeans Event

The late Hall of Fame jockeys Walter Blum, John Rotz and Bobby Ussery will be honored at the 10th annual Jockeys and Jeans Fundraiser for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF) to be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Blum was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of a newspaper delivery person, and was inducted into the Jewish Hall of Fame in 1986 and into the National Museum of Racing the following year. Hall of Fame Jockey Bobby Ussery Passes at 88

Hall of Famer Bobby Ussery, whose many accomplishments in the saddle included a victory aboard Proud Clarion in the 1967 Kentucky Derby, has passed away, it was reported Friday by the Gulfstream Park media team. He was 88. Gulfstream reported that Ussery, a native of Vian, Oklahoma, was in Florida at the time of his passing. His son, Robert Ussery Jr. told the Daily Racing Form that his father died earlier this week of congestive heart failure and was living in Hollywood, Florida, at the time.
