Gil Rowntree, 1997 Thoroughbred Trainer inductee into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, passed away May 24 at the age of 92. Rowntree's training achievements include a Sovereign Award as Canada's Outstanding Trainer in 1975. That same year his client, Stafford Farm received the Sovereign for Outstanding owner, the inaugural year the Sovereign Award for either trainer or owner was presented. Hall of Famer Patrick Husbands, one of Canada's most decorated jockeys, will retire from race riding but will continue getting on horses in the mornings, according to a release from Woodbine. Attfield Retires from Training at 86; Plans to Remain Active in Sport

Roger Attfield, 86, a member of both the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame and the United States National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame, is retiring from training after a 54-year career, although he plans to remain involved in the sport as an owner, breeder and consultant.
