Weather Woes Continue as Aqueduct Weekend Racing Cancelled

With drastic winter weather--arctic temperatures and extremely low wind chill values, according to the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA)-continuing to plague much of the country, NYRA has cancelled live racing Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at Aqueduct Racetrack. Racing has not been held at Aqueduct since Jan. 23. Old Man Winter Forces Oaklawn To Push Back Weekend Southwest Card

Due to inclement weather with projected temperatures ranging between 14 and 30 degrees, and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of both equine and human athletes, Oaklawn Park has canceled live racing scheduled for this weekend, Jan. 30-Feb. 1, which includes the GIII Southwest Stakes on Saturday, the Arkansas track said via a Tuesday release. Aqueduct and Woodbine Cancel Live Racing Sunday

Live racing at Aqueduct in Ozone Park, NY and Woodbine Racetrack in Toronto, Canada were cancelled Sunday due to high winds impacting much of the East Coast. Aqueduct abandoned racing following Race 2, while Woodbine cancelled after the day's third race. The National Weather Service forecast calls for sustained high winds and gusts in excess of 40 mph throughout the day. Finger Lakes Cancels Due to Adverse Weather Tuesday

Finger Lakes cancelled the entirety of its card due to adverse weather in the region on Tuesday. "Please be advised due to adverse weather conditions and out of an overabundance of caution, today's races have been cancelled. Woodbine Racetrack Cancels Sunday Card Due To Weather

Woodbine cancelled its live Sunday Thoroughbred racing card following the first race due to inclement weather, the track said in a press release on Sunday afternoon. The statement went on to say that the decision was made in the best interest of all participants and included consultation with the HBPA. Live racing is scheduled to resume Thursday, Nov. 13 at 5:30 p.m. ET. Woodbine Racetrack remained open for simulcasting.

High Winds KO Live Racing at Aqueduct Thursday

Thursday's scheduled Jan. 9 live racing card at Aqueduct Racetrack has been cancelled due to high winds, according to a release from the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) Wednesday evening. The winds are anticipated to impact the New York City area throughout the day Thursday. Winter Weather Cancels Oaklawn's Weekend of Racing

With severe winter weather continuing to plague parts of the country and more on the way, Oaklawn Park has canceled racing for the entire upcoming weekend. Live racing was originally scheduled for Friday to Sunday, Jan. 10-12, but will now resume Friday, Jan. 17. The Hot Springs track has not yet announced a rescheduling of the races that were to be held this weekend. One black-type race--the $150,000 Pippin Stakes for fillies and mares, 4-year-olds and up, going 1 1/16 miles--was slated for Saturday, Jan. 11.

Turfway Moves Wednesday Card To Sunday Jan. 12 Due To Winter Weather Forecast

Turfway Park has moved its Wednesday, Jan. 8 racing card to Sunday, Jan. 12 with a 1:00 p.m. ET. first post, in response to a National Weather Service forecast predicting a significant winter storm followed by nighttime wind chills in the single digits, the track said in a press release Saturday. The card will not be redrawn and run in its entirety on Sunday.
