Santa Anita to Race June 15 as Make Up Day for Shortened Thursday

After power issues that forced the cancellation of four races on the Thursday card at Santa Anita, the closing day of the winter-spring season will be extended one additional day to Monday, June 15 as a make-up afternoon, the track announced via release. Thursday's power issues began after the fifth race, necessitating the cancellation of the remaining four races, including the Listed Affirmed Stakes set for race 8 that afternoon. With More Rain Coming, Santa Anita Cancels Wednesday, Thursday Cards

Santa Anita Park has canceled live racing Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1 because of a strengthening rainstorm coming in from the Pacific. The storm, which was forecast to hit on Thursday, has gathered strength and is now expected to impact Southern California around noon Wednesday. The two-day storm is expected to bring up to three inches of rain to the area surrounding Santa Anita Park. The canceled races will be rescheduled in the coming weeks with the first make-up day coming next Thursday, Jan. 8.

Parx Adds Three Thursday Cards In January To Offset Dec. Cancellations

On the first day of scheduled racing at Aqueduct after the jockeys walked out Sunday after the first race, things returned to normal Thursday. The New York jockey colony refused to ride after Sunday's first race at Aqueduct because of a number of recent problems they have said they were having with NYRA management. Next Wednesday, Oct. 22, will be an additional day of live racing as part of the Belmont at the Big A fall meet, the New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) announced. Remington Park's Thursday Card Canceled Due to Technical Difficulties

Remington Park's Thursday night nine-race card had to be cancelled after technical difficulties, the track announced via press release Sept. 25. All wagers made that night were refundable and any guest who bought an official program on track could also seek a refund from the program stands. Racing will resume Friday through Sunday, Sept. 26-28 with Sunday hosting the GIII Oklahoma Derby. During the running of the seventh race at Colonial Downs on Thursday, Stanza (Great Notion), who went off at 6-1 for the maiden special weight, clipped heels and unseated jockey Tyler Conner.
