The farm's advisor Andrew Cary of Cary Bloodstock gave TDN a sampling of the variety of stallions the operation is breeding to in 2025, both in Kentucky and in Louisiana. Kentucky Value Sires For 2025–Part I: New Stallions

With 'TDN Rising Stars' Sierre Leone (Gun Runner) and Fierceness (City of Light) extending their rivalry into 2025, and the GI Kentucky Derby winner also persevering to a third campaign, there's no denying that the new intake of Bluegrass sires has a fairly bunched look. A cluster of second-tier names can duly compete for mares that might otherwise have favored one of the sophomore leaders, with eight of the 23 newcomers targeting broadly similar budgets between $40,000 and $30,000. Whether that qualifies any of them as "value" can only be...

Saturday Sires: Not This Time

How has your year gone? With the holidays approaching in earnest, it's not uncommon for American families to send a letter to loved ones sharing highlights from their year. If a stallion were to do that, Not This Time's letter might go something like this: Dear Friends and Family, It's been another great year! One son set the North American record on grass for 5 1/2 furlongs and has been billed as "the fastest horse in the world." Another couldn't be beaten at marathons on the dirt. Yet another was...

Nobals Back to Winning Ways in Kennedy Road, Hong Kong On the Horizon

Having picked up the greatest victory of his career, thus far, in the 2023 GI Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, Nobals (Noble Mission {GB}) had yet to return to that peak this season, but found the winner's enclosure again in the GII Kennedy Road Stakes Saturday evening at Woodbine. A 10-time winner in his career, most of them came against stakes or graded company over the course of four years. He'd made a name for himself early on as a quality synthetic horse, winning three stakes races in a row between...

Thorpedo Anna Leads Final NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll

With her convincing victory in Saturday's GI Longines Breeders' Cup Distaff at Del Mar, 'TDN Rising Star' Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna) displaced fellow 'Rising Star' Fierceness (City of Light) atop the final National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred Poll for 2024. The Ken McPeek-trained filly, who received 26 of a possible 30 first-place votes, should be a unanimous choice for champion 3-year-old filly and cemented her case for Horse of the Year with her front-running, 2 1/2-length defeat of Raging Sea (Curlin) in the Distaff, and combined with Fierceness's runner-up...

For those back in the barns as Breeders' Cup morning dawns, in many ways it's just like any other day. It is the same routine of raking barn aisles, topping off water buckets, checking temps, preparing feed, wrapping...
