Through four sessions, 698 horses grossed $90,805,000. A year ago, 705 horses grossed a record $90,723,000. The 2023 average of $129,907 was up fractionally from $128,685. A barn fire at Crane Thoroughbreds claimed the lives of 15 horses Saturday. "It was our sale baby barn," Clovis Crane confirmed via text. "We lost 15 2-year-olds. I got seven out, but the eighth wouldn't come out." Crane said his family and staff were uninjured in the blaze. Crane Thoroughbreds, located near Penn National Race Course, offers year-round breaking and sales prep.
