Ellis Park Racing & Gaming's summer season has come to a close with a substantial 22% gain in all-sources handle and 48% increase in prize money awarded. In total, more than $60.4 million was wagered at the 24-day Ellis Park meet, $11 million more than 2022. The Kentucky Horse Racing Commission (KHRC) has approved temporary licenses for six Churchill Downs Inc. (CDI) properties to begin accepting in-person sports wagers on Thursday, Sept. 7, the company said via a release Wednesday morning. Ellis Park has postponed its nine-race Friday card to Monday, due to an excessive heat warning in the Henderson, Kentucky area. The entirety of Friday's card will shift to Monday and will not be re-drawn. First post will be 11:45 a.m. The final three days of the Ellis Park meet will now be held Saturday to Monday. At this time there are no changes to Saturday or Sunday's cards and first posts each day are scheduled at 11:45 a.m.
Rafael Bejarano's trip from Kentucky to New York to ride just one mount Saturday in the GI Alabama S. resulted in disqualification from fifth to sixth and a subsequent three-day suspension issued Sunday by the Saratoga Race Course stewards for "careless riding."
