Heat Forces More Racing Cancellations at Parx, Delaware, Finger Lakes

Parx, which announced last week it was canceling racing Monday and Tuesday due to excessive heat, has now also abandoned its slate of live races Wednesday. Finger Lakes also wound up canceling their Tuesday card after initially trying to race, citing the excessive heat index in the area. With a heat wave gripping much of the country, Delaware Park has also been forced to cancel its Wednesday card. Earlier in the week, Finger Lakes and Prairie Meadows each canceled their live racing cards Monday due to weather.

Racing Cancelled At Finger Lakes On May 20

Owing to a lack of entries, the live racing program scheduled for Tuesday, May 20 at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) has been cancelled. According to a release from the track, the lingering impacts of a long winter combined with a wet spring resulted in trainers having limited opportunities to sufficiently prepare their horses for the season. The track says it is hopeful that entries will return to a more normal level as the inventory of fit and race-ready horses increases to the point where a Monday-through-Wednesday racing schedule...

Stabile Named Finger Lakes Track Announcer

Anthony Stabile has been named track announcer at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack. Stabile will become just the third announcer in Finger Lakes history when the upstate New York track opens for its 63rd season of Thoroughbred racing Apr. 29. Finger Lakes Adds Three New Claiming Series

Following the successful debut of its North Warning Distance Claiming series in 2023, Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack has added three more claiming series to its 2024 meet which opens Apr. 29. Pending approval from the New York State Gaming Commission, the track's racing secretary Jerry Richards will add an additional distance series for fillies and mares and two sprint claiming series.
