Second Chances: 'It Was a Big Day of Racing and There Were a Lot of People Talking About Him' – Sovereignty One to Watch Out of Loaded Travers Day Maiden

In this continuing series, TDN's Senior Racing Editor Steve Sherack catches up with the connections of promising maidens to keep on your radar. How stacked exactly was this year's Travers day 2-year-old maiden? Even the fourth-place finisher should be on your radar. In a race completely dominated on the front end, Godolphin homebred Sovereignty (c, 2, Into Mischief--Crowned, by Bernardini) kicked home impressively from last of 10 on debut for Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott to stamp himself as one to watch. The 11-1 chance broke on top from...

Unbeaten 'Rising Star' Knightsbridge Aiming for a Fall Return

Unbeaten 'TDN Rising Star' Knightsbridge (c, 3, Nyquist--Tyburn Brook, by Bernardini), a jaw-dropping winner of his first two starts by a combined 19 1/2 lengths, has begun gearing up for a potential return to action this fall at Keeneland. The Godolphin homebred posted a double-digit victory going seven furlongs on debut at Churchill Downs Nov. 4, then fired fresh off the bench with another dominating decision in an optional claimer going a one-turn mile at Gulfstream Park last out Mar. 28. The latter performance earned him a 96 Beyer Speed...

Siyouni's Beautiful Love Storms Home In Fasig-Tipton JC Oaks

Given an 18-5 chance to make amends for a disappointing sixth-place effort in Saratoga's GII Lake Placid Stakes Aug. 17, Godolphin's Beautiful Love (Ire) (Siyouni {Fr}) came with a barnstorming rally down the center of the Aqueduct turf course to take out Saturday's GIII Fasig-Tipton Jockey Club Oaks Invitational Stakes on Long Island. Taken well in hand out of the gates by Dylan Davis, the homebred settled in about third-last position as Macanga (American Pharoah) was aggressively ridden by Lane Luzzi and opened up a big margin on her rivals...

And One More Time Leads Casse Trifecta In Natalma Stakes At Woodbine

Trainer Mark Casse had won the GI Natalma Stakes no fewer than seven times dating back to Woodford Racing's Sprung (Grand Slam) back in 2006, but he had not succeeded since 2016, when Victory to Victory (Exchange Rate) carried the silks of Charlotte Weber's Live Oak Stud. The Hall of Famer had every chance to add to that total and snap the drought in Saturday's renewal, as he saddled six of the 11 juvenile fillies that went postward, and when all was said and done, the stable accounted for the...

European Invaders Assail Woodbine Gates, Churchill's Derby Trail Off And Running Saturday

Leading the graded stakes action on Saturday, there is something gruff and boomy about the barbaric 'yalp' of the European invaders who are set to swarm Woodbine's gates on Turf Champions Day. One can understand this hoard's verve as the booty is worth pillaging since three out of the four Grade I races on the docket are connected to some highly-prized Breeders' Cup 'Win and You're In' tickets.   Euros Wind Trebuchets Out of this auspicious Canadian slate, first up is the GI Natalma Stakes which offers entry into the...

Letter To the Editor: How The International Community Deals With Contamination

I read with interest the TDN article about Jorge Duarte, which is the latest in a pattern of stories about trainers (George Weaver, Rusty Arnold, etc.) with positive tests that have seemingly come from contamination. Glen Hill Farm has been racing and breeding horses since 1967. We are an American-based operation but have been building in Europe and Australia for the last decade. Having served on many industry boards, I always understood the goal for medication reform was for American racing to first have uniformity between states and then hopefully...

May Hill Success For Night Of Thunder's Unbeaten Desert Flower

In deeper than when beating up lesser lights on home soil, Godolphin's TDN Rising Star Desert Flower (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}--Promising Run, by Hard Spun) proved that she had what it takes to continue her winning sequence in Doncaster's G2 Betfred May Hill Stakes on Thursday. Untroubled in two starts on Newmarket's July Course, the Charlie Appleby-trained even-money favourite followed the early pace with William Buick content to play the waiting game. Staying on strongly to take control passing the furlong pole, the daughter of the four-time group 2...

Moulin Surprise As Farhh's Tribalist Doesn't Come Back

He was the underestimated one in the line-up for Sunday's G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, but everything was in place for the front-running soft-ground specialist Tribalist (GB) (Farhh {GB}--Fair Daughter {GB}, by Nathaniel {Ire}) to deliver a career-best and take the prestigious prize from under the noses of the miling elite. Predictably placed on the lead soon after the start by Mickael Barzalona, the Andre Fabre-trained 5-year-old who had made an artform of winning pattern races in this style was expected to come back eventually but it just never...

Night Of Thunder's Ombudsman Keeps His Perfect Record Intact At ParisLongchamp

There is every chance that Sunday's G3 Prix du Prince d'Orange was a hot affair and so all credit goes to Godolphin's Ombudsman (Ire) (Night Of Thunder {Ire}--Syndicate {GB}, by Dansili {GB}) for extending his unbeaten sequence in ParisLongchamp's 10-furlong test. Impressive on good ground in the Listed Prix Nureyev at Deauville last month, the 3-5 favourite raced in the box seat behind the leader First Look (Ire) (Lope De Vega {Ire}) and was gifted a clear run up the rail as that G1 Prix du Jockey Club runner-up drifted...

Seven milers will go to post for Sunday's G1 Prix du Moulin de Longchamp, with Nurlan Bizakov's G1 Queen Anne Stakes and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois hero Charyn (Ire) (Dark Angel {Ire}) set to lock horns with Godolphin's G1 2,000 Guineas and G1 Sussex Stakes winner Notable Speech (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}). Godolphin also have the Andre Fabre-trained multiple group winner Tribalist (GB) (Farhh {GB}), whose forward-going tendency will complement Charlie Appleby's hold-up merchant, while Ballydoyle's G1 Vincent O'Brien National Stakes winner and G1 St James's Palace Stakes runner-up Henry...
