Goffs UK
The start of the racing season, and in fact the yearling sales season itself, may have been badly impeded by the coronavirus pandemic, but that didn't stop Goffs UK's Premier Yearling Sale graduates from getting off to a flying start once things finally did get underway. One of the fastest from the gate was The Lir Jet (Ire) (Prince Of Lir {Ire}), whose debut victory three days after racing's resumption on June 3 led to a private deal with Qatar Racing and a subsequent victory in the G2 Norfolk S....
Bloodstock agents Peter and Ross Doyle have developed quite an affinity with the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, having plucked Group 1 winners like Canford Cliffs (Ire), Olympic Glory (Ire), Tiggy Wiggy (Ire) and Barney Roy (GB) from its catalogues. The Doyles' haul from last year's sale includes the G2 Prix Robert Papin winner Ventura Tormenta and the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Stakes winner Happy Romance (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}). The TDN's Kelsey Riley caught up with Ross Doyle as he prepares to shop this year's catalogue. KR: You have...
Daniel Creighton talks about Salcey Forest Stud's six-horse draft for this week's Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, including a Cotai Glory (GB) half-sister to A'Ali (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}). [audio mp3="https://wp.tdn.pmadv.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/08/Daniel-Creighton_podcast.mp3"][/audio]
Fledgling bloodstock agent Daniel Creighton took a swing at the top of the market at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in 2016, spending £220,000 on behalf of owner John Dance on the sale's highest-priced filly. The transaction could hardly have worked out better, with that yearling going on to become the six-time Group 1 winner Laurens (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}). Creighton, along with his partner Josh Schwartz, are hoping to feature on the leaderboard at the same sale on Sept. 1 and 2 as sellers, with six yearlings set to...
Goffs will shift its two-day Orby yearling sale-to be staged this year at Goffs UK's Doncaster sales complex-forward by a day and it will now take place on Sept. 30 and Oct 1. The change was made to allow an additional day between Orby and Tattersalls October Book 1. Orby yearlings will ship into Doncaster on Sept. 27, following the Goffs Sportsman's Sale there on Sept. 24 and 25. "Our job is to deliver the greatest opportunity for every lot with which we are entrusted," said Goffs Group Chief Executive...
Richard Fahey trainee Fev Rover (Ire) (Gutaifan) was rewarded for runner-up finishes at Doncaster and Newmarket with a first black-type success upped to seven furlongs for Sandown's July 21 Listed Star S. and duly delivered as a short-odds selection for a second in Saturday's G2 Shadwell Prix du Calvados at Deauville. The April-foaled dark bay raced prominently, just behind the pacesetting Plainchant (Fr) (Gregorian {Ire}), for most of the straight seven-furlong trip. Rowed along to close on that rival passing the quarter-mile marker, the 6-5 favourite came under sterner urging...
Goffs will stage its Orby and Sportsman's Sales at its Goffs UK sales complex in Doncaster this year rather than at Kildare Paddocks in Ireland. The dates for the sales have also been slightly adjusted; the Sportsman's Sale has been moved a week earlier to Sept. 24 and 25, while the Orby Sale will take place slightly later than planned on Oct. 1 and 2 to allow buyers who wish to attend Books 1 and 2 of Keeneland September to self-isolate for two weeks before traveling to Doncaster. The location...
Goffs UK has released the catalogue for its Doncaster Premier Sale, with 423 yearlings set to go under the hammer on Sept. 1 and 2. The sale has already enjoyed a fruitful 2020, with Golden Horde (GB) (Lethal Force {Ire}) following on from fellow sale graduate Advertise (GB) (Showcasing {GB}) in winning the G1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot and The Lir Jet (Ire) (Prince of Lir {Ire}) making it back-to-back wins for the sale in the G2 Norfolk S., with A'Ali (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}) having taken that prize...
Unbeaten entering Sunday's G3 Darley Prix de Cabourg, Cairn Gorm (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}) kept his tally secure with a battling effort in the Deauville sunshine. Helped by the fact that his compatriot and the 11-10 market-leader Mighty Gurkha (Ire) (Sepoy {Aus}) was left at the start, the chestnut who was carrying the Hunscote Stud colours tracked the pace and was perfectly positioned before hitting the front passing the furlong pole. Asserting from there under Tom Marquand, the 17-5 second favourite scored by a length from Jubilation (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}),...
The third and final session of Goffs UK's Summer Sale on Wednesday provided the sale's highlight when The Million In Mind Partnership's unbeaten hurdler Grand Roi (Fr) (Spanish Moon) (lot 318) fetched £400,000 from Aidan O'Ryan and trainer Gordon Elliott. The pricetag is the second-highest ever achieved from the annual Million In Mind reduction. Another pair of horses in training shared the day's second-highest price of £82,000: Fabrique En France (Fr) (Yeats {Ire}) (lot 340A), who was supplemented off a point-to-point second at Ballycahane on July 3 and bought by...
Forced to race on his own in Sunday's G2 Holden Plant Rentals Sapphire S. at The Curragh, Shaikh Duaij Al Khalifa's burgeoning sprinting star A'Ali (Ire) (Society Rock {Ire}) was admirably uncomplicated as he secured a fifth pattern-race success. Coming here on the back of a first 3-year-old success in a competitive renewal of the July 5 G3 Sandown Sprint S., the even-money favourite was detached from the main field early and out on a limb but was fortunately able to benefit from the guile and confidence of Colin Keane....
As the coronavirus pandemic continues, Goffs and Tattersalls have revised the store sales dates to allow sufficient time for vendors to quarantine between the Goffs UK Summer Sale and the Irish Store sales at Goffs and Tattersalls Ireland in compliance with Irish Government quarantine requirements. A two week gap between sales in the UK and Ireland has been agreed to give adequate time for Irish vendors to return from England and quarantine before they head to Kildare for the Goffs Land Rover Sale and then to the Tattersalls Ireland Derby...
