There was just one offering by Night Of Thunder (Ire) in this year's Goffs Sportsman's Sale, and the Castlebridge-consigned filly duly topped the two-day auction with bid of £72,000 from Peter and Ross Doyle. Lot 730 is the fourth foal out of the placed Manduro (Ger) mare Muzhil (Ire), whose 3-year-old Monzoon (Ire) (Bated Breath {GB}) has become the mare's first winner since the catalogue was published. Muzhil is a half-sister to Godolphin's triple group winner Beautiful Romance (GB) (New Approach {Ire}). The filly proved a profitable pinhook, having cost...
DONCASTER, UK—Well, at least that ordeal is out of the way. It was never going to be fun, but it could have been worse. Horses were sold, some of them even sold well; and other vendors, with an 83% clearance rate, were evidently ready to cut losses. And soon everybody will at least be able to start figuring out how venturesome they can afford to be, once finally bidding good riddance to 2020. Embarking on the European yearling circuit was always going to be extremely challenging for an industry so...
DONCASTER, UK--Well, this is the day when perhaps we'll start to know. Only perhaps, mind. Each auction is a market in its own right and, besides, everyone has over recent months become accustomed to such wild fluctuations in outlook that the world can look a very different place between breakfast and dinner, never mind between the opening session of the yearling sales season, at Doncaster on Tuesday, and its conclusion two months hence. All that said, the opening skirmishes of the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale are bound to be...
The catalogue for the Goffs Sportsman's Sale, which features a Camelot (GB) filly (lot 618) who is closely related to G1 Irish Derby hero Frozen Fire (Ger) (Montjeu {Ire}) from Camas Park Stud, was released on Thursday. A total of 386 yearlings will go under the hammer on Sept. 24-25 at the Goffs Sales Complex in Doncaster. River Boyne (Ire) (Dandy Man {Ire}), who won the GI Frank E. Kilroe Mile S. at Santa Anita Park in the U.S. on Mar. 7, is a Sportsman's Sale graduate and is just...
Goffs will stage its Orby and Sportsman's Sales at its Goffs UK sales complex in Doncaster this year rather than at Kildare Paddocks in Ireland. The dates for the sales have also been slightly adjusted; the Sportsman's Sale has been moved a week earlier to Sept. 24 and 25, while the Orby Sale will take place slightly later than planned on Oct. 1 and 2 to allow buyers who wish to attend Books 1 and 2 of Keeneland September to self-isolate for two weeks before traveling to Doncaster. The location...
The two-day Goffs Land Rover Sale of National Hunt store horses drew to a close with a lower-key session on Thursday and with overall satisfactory results in a difficult market. Thursday's top lot was the 3-year-old Lauro (Ger) gelding Hero D'Engilbert (Fr) (lot 404) and he was scooped up by Michael Shefflin and Paul Holden for €43,000. Part 1 of the sale saw 184 horses sold from 220 offered for a clearance rate of 84% and an aggregate of €7,956,500. The average dipped 12% to €42,098 and the median was...
The catalogue for the Goffs Orby Sale, which includes a Sea The Stars (Ire) half-sister to a trio of Group 1 winners out of Theatrical (Ire) mare Green Room (lot 176), is now online. Numerous blue-blooded pedigrees make up the two-day sale, with 474 yearlings set to go under the hammer on Sept. 29-30. Sunday's G1 Keeneland Phoenix S. winner Lucky Vega (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) is a €175,000 graduate of the Orby Sale. Ballylinch Stud will offer the 12th foal of the unraced Green Room, whose 2018 Galileo...
Goffs has announced that its forthcoming Land Rover Sale of National Hunt store horses will take place in Ireland as planned despite a failed bid to have certain overseas buyers made exempt from the country's 14-day quarantine requirement for visitors. Tattersalls Ireland's Derby and May Store Sales will also go ahead as planned at Fairyhouse on Aug. 18 and 19 and Aug. 20, respectively. The sale is set to take place next week on Aug. 12 and 13 and only incoming visitors from 'Green List' countries' will not have had...
New policies on the use of corticosteroids and bronchodilators-including Clenbuterol--for all yearlings, horses in and out of training and unraced 2-year-olds will be introduced at the beginning of the UK and Irish yearling sales from Sept. 1 forward, Tattersalls and Goffs announced on Monday. Starting with the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale, all stock sold at the two sales companies will have these restrictions applied. These new Conditions of Sale will allow buyers to have post-sale testing for corticosteroids and bronchodilators (Clenbuterol). Any positive test or any trace of bronchodilators...
Neil Walsh has been appointed to the Goffs bloodstock team and will start in his new position in August. Walsh, who stepped down from his position in Tattersalls Ireland in February, will take up a vendor liaison role and join the inspection panel for all National Hunt and Flat sales, beginning with the November Foal Sale in addition to the December NH Sale. "Neil is an excellent addition to the dynamic bloodstock and inspection teams at Goffs, and I have no doubt he is a perfect fit, combining experience and...
DONCASTER, UK—There aren't many bloodstock sales companies that can boast of an Irish auctioneer who can speak French with a Yorkshire accent but if you happen to walk in to the Goffs UK sales ring at Doncaster on Wednesday while Nick Nugent is on the rostrum that is what you're likely to find. In the spirit of COVID-encouraged entente cordiale, the breeze-up sector finds itself in a situation few would have imagined at the start of this year, with British sales house Goffs UK and French-based Arqana holding their respective...
