Hopeful
According to the rulings page of the New York State Gaming Commission, trainer Todd Pletcher began serving a 10-day suspension Thursday. The suspension stems from the 2022 GI Hopeful Stakes when the Pletcher-trained Forte (Violence) tested positive for Meloxicam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. Pletcher has denied using the medication with Forte. The Gaming Commission also ruled that Forte was officially disqualified from the Hopeful victory. The news from the Gaming Commission led owner Mike Repole to post a long and scathing tweet on X. "The New York State Gaming Commission @NYSGamingComm...
"There are decades where nothing happens," said Lenin. "And there are weeks when decades happen." By the notoriously slow-burning standards of Thoroughbred breeding, however, for Amy Moore it has felt more like a decade when centuries have happened. The way it began, in a sprint maiden at Saratoga on 16 August 2015, could hardly have been less auspicious. The previous September, as she prepared to surface from a 30-year immersion in employee benefits law in Washington D.C., Moore had bought a Blame filly at Keeneland. The idea was that someday...
'TDN Rising Star' Gulfport (Uncle Mo--Fame and Fortune, by Unbridled's Song) will join the Pleasant Acres Stallions roster ahead of the 2026 breeding season, the farm announced. The 5-year-old earned his 'Rising Star' with a debut win at Churchill Downs as a 2-year-old and followed that up with a next-out victory in the Bashford Manor Stakes. It was a first black-type win for the 4-year-old gelding who races for Innergy Racing Corp, Zephyr Racing and Sonny Pais. Bred by John Walsh, Jerry O'Brien and the...
The GI Runhappy Travers S, normally run on the next-to-last weekend of the Saratoga meet, has been moved up to Aug. 8. The shift of the Travers date was one of a handful of changes made to the 2020 Saratoga stakes schedule, which was released Friday by the New York Racing Association. Had the Travers stayed in its normal slot on the calendar, it would have been run Aug. 29, just one week before the repositioned GI Kentucky Derby. With the race having been moved back three weeks, it sets...
Trainer Henry Collazo has been in the racing business for over 40 years, but has just one graded stakes win to his name courtesy of Mucho Mas Macho (Macho Uno) in the 2013 GII Fort Lauderdale S. at his Gulfstream Park homebase. The veteran conditioner looks to add to his resume and make a few lifelong dreams come true Monday with Bullet Gone Astray (Gone Astray), who will attempt to take his record to three-for-three in Saratoga's GI Hopeful S. "I have placed in graded stakes in the past, but...
