CHRB Again Votes Down NorCal Dates, Dashing Hopes For '25 Racing At Fairs

The California Horse Racing Board (CHRB) on Thursday voted down two separate proposals to allocate 2025 race dates to entities at Ferndale and Fresno that wanted to keep Thoroughbred racing going on the now-nonexistent Northern California circuit. Heat Forces Delaware Park To Shift Next Week's Schedule To Thursday-Saturday

Due to the extreme heat index forecasted for next week, live racing has been rescheduled for Thursday, June 26 through Saturday, June 28 at Delaware Park, the track said via a press release on Thursday. There will be no racing on Wednesday, June 25. Entries taken tomorrow, will be for the card rescheduled to Friday, June 27. Navarro Sent To ICE Facility

One day after he was released from a federal prison, disgraced trainer Jorge Navarro is now in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He is being detained at an ICE facility in Miami called Krome North Spc. The stable area at Colonial Downs will open on Monday, June 23, with training scheduled to begin two days later at the New Kent facility. Turf Paradise Reports Historically Low Fatality Rate

The 2024-2025 race meeting at Turf Paradise in Phoenix, Arizona, concluded on Kentucky Derby day May 3 with the lowest ever fatality rate in the 69-year history of the track, according to a release. For the entire meet, the track recorded a fatality rate of 0.73 per 1,000 starts and from the beginning of 2025 through the end of the meet, post a rate of just 0.24. Belmont Barn Under Quarantine Due To Strangles Positive

Barn 28 on the Belmont Park backstretch has been placed under a precautionary 14-day quarantine by the New York Racing Association (NYRA) and New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) until further notice due to a positive case of strangles in the barn.
