Into Mischief
by Jessica Martini & Christina Bossinakis SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The record-smashing Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale steam rolled to its conclusion Tuesday night, setting highwater marks for every metric and culminating with a head-turning gross of $100,715,000. At the close of business, 160 yearlings had sold for an average of $629,469 and median of $450,000--numbers which dwarfed records set just last year when 154 yearlings grossed $82,160,000 for an average of $533,506 and a median of $425,000. It was the third straight year of across-the-board statistical records at the Saratoga sale....
Spendthrift Farm, the stallion home of the all-conquering Into Mischief, gave a sales-leading $2.6 million for a son of treble Grade I winner I'm A Chatterbox (Munnings) at about the midway point of Tuesday's second and final session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Sale in upstate New York. Spendthrift also owns the year-older full-sister, named Bad Manners, after paying $700,000 for the filly during last year's Saratoga sale. Hip 163 is the 14th million-dollar seller over the course of the first session and a half and was the fifth of the...

Click here for the online catalog of yearlings. Print catalogs are scheduled to start arriving in the mail the week of Aug. 18. Last year, the September Sale was the world's highest-grossing Thoroughbred auction in history with more than $428 million in sales for 2,894 horses. Bring Theband Home (Into Mischief) is a Saratoga boy through and through, giving the field the slip and strolling home to claim the GII Troy Stakes while also keeping his perfect record at the Spa intact. With the exception of his shortened sophomore season in 2023, the Mark Casse runner had made a return to Saratoga every year since his juvenile season, and every year returned to his homebase in Florida with a win to his credit. The most recent appearance was July 4 when he took the Harvey Pack...
Saturday's racing action at Saratoga and across the country saw not only an eye-catching number of new 'TDN Rising Stars' (the final tally stopping on five), but also current members of the club securing sensational victories against salty competition. With the runners emerging from their efforts with positive prognoses, their connections are now looking ahead. Of the established 'Rising Stars', GII Saratoga Special victor Ewing (Knicks Go) returned from that win in fine form and will now be tasked with stretching his abilities out. The Mark Casse trainee was one...
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Many of the smiles and chuckles following Ted Noffey's victory in the first race at Saratoga Race Course Saturday had very little to do with his solid 1 1/2-length victory. They were about his name, which was the result of a very simple but humorous mistake, as his, err, namesake Ned Toffey explained. Toffey, for 21 years the general manager of Spendthrift Farm, which owns Ted Noffey, was chosen as Kentucky's Farm Manager of the Year in 2024, an honor that started the story. "One of...
TED NOFFEY (c, 2, Into Mischief--Streak of Luck, by Old Fashioned) may've started as a typo, but the performance was no joke as the grey gamely kicked home to 'TDN Rising Star' honors at Saratoga. The son of the perennial leading sire entered into this debut with a long worktab at the venue with the most recent move having come July 21 when he breezed four panels in :49.55 (25/44) in company with fellow Spendthrift co-owned Tapit's Legacy (Tapit)--who also won at first asking last week by five lengths. Sent...
The past few months have been a rollercoaster of emotions for Liliana Solari, Carlos Heller and their team at Don Alberto. In April, the farm's homebred superstar Journalism (Curlin) scored the first of three Grade I victories in the Santa Anita Derby. Three weeks later, his dam Mopotism (Uncle Mo) foaled a picture-perfect Flightline filly. Journalism finished second, first, then second again in the Triple Crown series, taking his ownership group on an unforgettable journey on racing's biggest stage. Then suddenly, the highs gave way to heartbreak when Mopotism passed...

Tommy Jo (f, 2, Into Mischief--Mother Mother, by Pioneerof the Nile) became the 53rd 'TDN Rising Star' for her out-of-this-world stallion Into Mischief with a powerful performance on debut at Saratoga Saturday. Off as the 2-1 second choice, the Spendthrift Farm homebred was ridden along in fifth, hit the gas with a flashy, sweeping move on the far turn, opened daylight in the stretch and was hand ridden by John Velazquez to a facile 3 3/4-length victory over Tennesse Belle (Yaupon). Tommy Jo's final time of 1:11.24 for six furlongs...
4th-DMR, 100K, Msw, 2yo, 5 1/2f, 6:33 p.m. Amr Zedan went to an eye-watering OBS record $3,000,000 to acquire BRANT (Gun Runner) from consigner Eddie Woods back in March and the colt makes his debut at Del Mar for Hall of Famer Bob Baffert. Working in an impressive time of :9 3/5, he was a huge pinhook for St. Clair Stables who picked him up for just $200,000 as a yearling at Keeneland last September. Brant is out of a winning Liam's Map half-sister to GSW/GISP and young stallion Pappacap...
2nd-Monmouth, $51,975, Msw, 7-19, 3yo/up, f/m, 6f, 1:10.70, ft, 6 1/4 lengths. SILENT DREAMER (f, 3, Into Mischief--Celestine {GISW, $1,148,055}, by Scat Daddy) debuted on the lawn at Aqueduct Sept. 19 last season, and ran a flat seventh after showing little. She transitioned from the Christophe Clement to the Miguel Clement program on her return to the barn, and left the blocks for this second jump with first-time blinkers, Lasix, and on the main track. In the bit and taking the lead right from the jump, the 7-1 shot set...
