Del Mar will play host to a pair of competitive juvenile events Sunday in the GI Runhappy Del Mar Futurity and GIII Del Mar Juvenile Turf. Lyon Looking Forward to the Future With Flightline and His Siblings

After watching her undefeated homebred sensation Flightline (Tapit) demolish the GI TVG Pacific Classic field by 19 1/4 lengths Saturday, Jane Lyon was in just as much awe as the rest of the racing world. "It was unbelievable," Lyon said. "The fact that I bred him almost doesn't come into my mind. I don't take credit for any of that because I think a horse like this is a gift. After not running until a very late 3-year-old, he is just seems like he is getting better every day and...

Casse Plays Chess with Spinaway-Bound Wonder Wheel

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Though their names are similar and they have trainer Mark Casse in common, Wonder Gadot (Medaglia d'Oro) and Wonder Wheel (Into Mischief) are not related, except, possibly, in ability. Wonder Gadot, a two-time champion and 2018 Horse of the Year in Canada, is named for the Israeli actress, Gal Gadot, who gained international attention in the 2017 film "Wonder Woman." Wonder Wheel, the unbeaten filly who will run in the GI Spinaway S. Sunday, is named for the very famous 102-year-old, 150-foot Ferris wheel at Coney...

Into Mischief's Laurel River Impresses in Pat O'Brien

The GII Pat O'Brien S. was billed as a softer spot for GISW Speaker's Corner (Street Sense) to land after facing leading older horses Flightline (Tapit) and Life Is Good (Into Mischief) in his last two starts, but apparently the lightly raced Laurel River (Into Mischief--Calm Water, by Empire Maker) didn't get the memo as he stormed home to take the seven-furlong Del Mar sprint, a "Win and You're In" race for the GI Big Ass Fans Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile. Laurel River broke smoothly and immediately attended the pace...

APBs: Derby Day 'Rising Star' Strobe Aiming for Fall Return

With the completely stunned Kentucky Derby day crowd of 147,294 beginning to file out following Rich Strike (Keen Ice)'s upset for the ages, Strobe (c, 3, Into Mischief--Flashing, by A.P. Indy) looked like he could be any kind while closing out the stacked 14-race card with a dominating 'TDN Rising Star' performance. But where's the Godolphin homebred been since the first Saturday in May? "He's just back with Brad [Cox] and slowly getting back going again," Godolphin Director of Bloodstock Michael Banahan said. Classical Cat Another Good Omen for Mendelssohn

It's not a too common occurrence for sales-topping purchases to make it on the track despite the world of promise their pedigree, physical, and connections might imply. Further out still is the extraordinary feat of reproducing themselves or--at the very least--producing several runners of equitable talent between them, though stallions have the task on significantly easier asking than do the fillies and mares. Mendelssohn is patiently inching closer to changing that outlook and his Del Mar winner from last Saturday proves the stallion can get a promising runner at any...

Saving ground as pacesetters put up :23.56 and :48.35 fractions up the backstretch, she cut the...
