$350,000 Yaupon Filly Tops Texas 2-Year-Olds Sale

A Kentucky-bred filly by Yaupon (hip 59) brought a sale-record $350,000 when topping the Texas Thoroughbred Association's 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale Wednesday at Lone Star Park. From a catalogue of 74 juveniles, 66 went through the ring and 43 were reported sold for a gross of $1,604,500. The average was $37,314 and the median was $21,000. Mendelssohn's First Foal a Filly

The first foal for Coolmore's Mendelssohn (Scat Daddy--Leslie's Lady, by Tricky Creek), a half-brother to multiple Eclipse Award winner Beholder (Henny Hughes) and leading sire Into Mischief (Harlan's Holiday) and the $3-million topper at the 2016 Keeneland September sale, was represented by his first foal the evening of Jan. 14 when Lilacs and Lilies (Bodemeister) produced a filly at Brookstown Farm.
