Keogh Hopeful November Momentum Will Roll Into the New Year

James Keogh's Grovendale Sales enjoyed a very strong Keeneland November Sale about seven weeks ago. Finishing in the top 10 on the consignor standings, Grovendale sold 62 head for $6.9 million and had an especially good showing during the auction's second session. The Irishman says he hopes that success will carry into the upcoming Keeneland January Sale, where his consignment will offer 42 horses. Keeneland has announced a revamped stakes schedule for its 15-day 2022 Spring Meet, which will be held from Apr. 8-29. Keeneland Art Auction Grosses $1.9 Million

The ninth annual Sporting Art Auction, a collaboration between Keeneland and Cross Gate Gallery of Lexington held Sunday afternoon at the Keeneland Sales Pavilion, grossed $1,908,015. Topping the auction was Andre Pater's War and Peace, a pair of signed and dated pastels, sold for $115,000, including buyer premium. Fishing on the Elkhorn, a signed oil by Kentucky artist Paul Sawyier, brought the second-highest price of $100,050. Keeneland's portion of the auction proceeds will benefit its non-profit initiatives.

LEXINGTON, KY - The Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, which reached its halfway mark Sunday, has already surpassed the total gross of its 10-day 2020 renewal. At the conclusion of Sunday's session, 1,120 horses had sold for $166,206,000. The auction's total 2020 turnover was $151,017,300.
