Kentucky Reduces Vet's List Time For Unsoundness To Seven Days, Down From 14

The Kentucky Horse Racing and Gaming Corporation, which met Tuesday, will reduce the number of days a horse must be on the vet's list for unsoundness from 14 days down to seven. A $350,000 bonus will be awarded to breeders of record for horses competing Friday, Mar. 27 at Turfway Park, in conjunction with the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and the Kentucky HBPA, the track announced Monday morning. A $350,000 bonus will be awarded to breeders of record for horses competing during Stars of Tomorrow II Day at Churchill Downs on Saturday, Nov. 29, in conjunction with the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association and the Kentucky HBPA, the track said via a Friday release. Non-Profits Receive $100k Donations From KY HBPA And Kentucky Downs On Saturday

Kentucky's HBPA teamed with Kentucky Downs to present $100,000 checks to three industry non-profit organizations during Saturday's card at the turf track in Franklin, Kentucky, the horsemen's outfit said via a Saturday press release. The assistance will provide funding to the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, Stable Recovery and the Kentucky Racing Health and Welfare Fund. The Kentucky Horsemen's Benevolent & Protective Association (HBPA) has hired lifelong horseman Alex Foley as its new executive director, the organization announced Tuesday. Mount Fee Increase For All Kentucky Racetracks

The Jockeys' Guild has reached an agreement with the Kentucky HBPA and the Kentucky Thoroughbred Association on a mount fee increase effective Nov. 29, which is opening day of the Turfway Park Holiday meet, the organization said in a release Wednesday. The mount fee schedule calls for a minimum fee of $125 at all Kentucky racetracks, including Churchill Downs, Keeneland, Ellis Park, Kentucky Downs and Turfway Park. Frank L. Jones, Jr. Succumbs to Long Illness

Frank L. Jones, Jr., a prominent owner, breeder, and servant to the horse industry through decades of work on the boards of several Thoroughbred organizations, passed away Thursday, Aug. 10 after a long illness.
