Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund (KTDF) registration fees will be going up as of Jan. 1, 2026. The increase is the first since 2022. Registrations for foals will go from $75 to $95; yearling rates from $100 to $140; racing-age rates from $350 to $700. Only Kentucky-sired and Kentucky-foaled horses that are registered with KTDF prior to the close of entries will receive KTDF purse supplements. With reporting 85-90% complete for the 2024 season, 1,099 stallions covered 27,180 mares in North America which resulted in 17,103 live foals in 2025, The Jockey Club announced Tuesday. The reporting of live foals of 2025 is down 3.4% from last year at this time when The Jockey Club had received reports for 17,700 live foals of 2024. Hundreds of Kentucky HBPA-member trainers will now be eligible to sign up for a workers' compensation policy that covers their stable employees at a possible substantial savings. In a statement released Thursday morning, the Kentucky HBPA noted that "Kentucky HBPA members are now eligible for an existing partial self-funded workers' compensation program created and managed by horsemen.
