Roger O'Callaghan: 'Maranoa Charlie Is A Class Horse – He Could Be A Bit Different'

Roger and Tony O'Callaghan talk about Tally-Ho Stud's new addition Maranoa Charlie, buying into Group 1 winner Zavateri and more "We prefer not to say too much, we rather row in behind the horses and let them do the talking," says Tony O'Callaghan from his kitchen table at Tally-Ho Stud.  Both he and his son Roger don't bother to conceal the fact that this is their least favourite part of the job. There is, of course, a silver lining to the fact a journalist with an expectant face and a...

Darley Sire Night Of Thunder
Champion Night Of Thunder Leads Next Wave of Elite Stallions

Galileo and Dubawi, two titans of the sport whose fates have been so entwined for the past two decades that the marrying of their superior bloodlines to one day give us a champion sire was perhaps as inevitable as it is satisfying for us bloodstock nuts. On 12 occasions, in 2008 and then every year between 2010 and 2020, Galileo topped the end-of-year sires' table in Britain and Ireland. On four of those occasions Dubawi filled the runner-up spot, before the Darley stalwart finally enjoyed his day in the sun...

'Easy Has International Appeal And We Can't Wait For The Sceptre Sessions'

The aptly-named Easy has been billed as one of the star attractions to Monday's Sceptre Sessions at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale and Brian Slattery says that the Listed-winning daughter of Kodiac boasts "international appeal" and a successful sale would put the cherry on top of what has been a dream year for his brother and trainer, Andy.  The landscape of Irish racing has changed even in the past few years alone. The bigger trainers have become behemoths and it has become harder and harder for the middle to lower...

Tally-Ho Stud “Quietly Delighted” With Record-Breaking Stallion Mehmas

In what must be the understatement of the year, Tally-Ho Stud boss Tony O'Callaghan has described himself as "quietly delighted" to see Mehmas (Ire) make history for the number of two-year-old winners recorded in a season when Naughty Eyes, who was bred by the County Westmeath operation, delivered winner number 62 for the stallion at Wolverhampton on Monday.  The previous record had been set by the daddy of Tally-Ho, Kodiac (GB), who O'Callaghan was keen to state is far from finished.  But what Mehmas has achieved in setting the record...

Seven Days: Tribalist the Latest Star for Wiener Wald Family

It's been a while, hasn't it? We can only apologise for the onslaught of the sales and some extra international travel pushing the Seven Days beat on to the back-burner, but we're home now, almost jetlag-free, and ready for this week's round-up. Quite a lot of Sunday mornings are spent trudging along the Devil's Dyke which separates Newmarket's Rowley Mile from the July Course. The dogs love it, but this walker felt a little wearier this past weekend at the thought that we've now switched back to the Rowley Mile...

A Godolphin runner from the Charlie Appleby barn, the 3-year-old filly began her racing in 'Rising Star' style, winning at second asking by 11 lengths in her native England just over a year ago. Winning Machine: Big Week Could Be In Store For Mehmas At Royal Ascot

Is there any stallion out there who is better represented in the juvenile division than Mehmas (Ire)? For context, fellow Tally-Ho Stud resident Kodiac (GB) is on 12 individual juvenile winners while No Nay Never has eight, Soldier's Call...
