Artists are invited to submit their original works celebrating Preakness 150 and Pimlico Race Course for The Art of Racing 2025, 1S/T and the Maryland Jockey Club announced via press release Monday afternoon. Having attracted more than 500 artists of all ages since its inception four years ago, original, two-dimensional artwork submissions for the 2025 contest were accepted beginning Thursday, Jan. 30 and will run through Friday, Mar. 14 on the Preakness website. Leo Kahl's 'First Turn' has been named the winner of Preakness: The Art of Racing, a nationwide art competition celebrating the unique elements of the Preakness S. and Thoroughbred horse racing. The winning artwork was announced at an honorary ceremony in the Brown Center at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Justin Johnson has been named the winner of the second annual Preakness Art of Racing contest. Johnson's original illustration titled "The Face of Victory" was selected by a panel of judges from among the 207 submissions, each of which depicted the extraordinary elements of Thoroughbred horse racing and the Preakness S. The Art of Racing, inaugurated last year as a partnership between 1/ST, the Maryland Jockey Club and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), today launched its 2023 program.
