El Magnate Overcomes Trouble, Named Into Mischief's 60th 'TDN Rising Star'

He had every right to throw in the towel in this troubled unveiling, but El Magnate (c, 3, Into Mischief--Cover Song, by Fastnet Rock {Aus}) wasn't discouraged. He overcame the trouble to finish full of run in a 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard' performance at Woodbine Sunday. The M Racing Group LLC colorbearer marked the 60th 'Rising Star' for his seven-time leading sire, Into Mischief, who holds court at Spendthrift near Lexington. El Magnate--sent at 8-5--hopped at the start, spotting his rivals several lengths. The big colt took his...

The 2025 Thoroughbred season at Woodbine concluded with a weather-shortened afternoon of racing Sunday, Dec. 14, with jockey Rafael Hernandez, trainer Mark Casse and owner Bruno Schickedanz finishing the meet as leading jockey, trainer and owner, respectively. A native of Puerto Rico, Hernandez rode 148 winners and was taking out the jockeys' premiership for the second time in his career, having topped the standings in 2020. War Front's 'TDN Rising Star' Two Out Hero Shines In Soaring Free

Named a 'TDN Rising Star' when romping to a 12-length maiden victory over the adjacent Tapeta track back on July 13, Gold Square LLC's Two Out Hero (War Front) split horses decisively with push coming to shove in Saturday's Soaring Free Stakes at Woodbine and finished nicely to take his record to two wins from as many tries and cap a wildly successful afternoon from the King's Plate-winning barn of Kevin Attard. Off as the 6-5 chalk, the $240,000 Keeneland September purchase could have flaunted the same sort of speed...

Beau Liam's Border Czar Takes Control in My Dear Girl Stakes

Airdrie Stud's Beau Liam (by Liam's Map) got his second black-type winner in his first crop of 2-year-olds--and second in a week--Saturday when Border Czar sailed under the wire in the My Dear Stakes at Woodbine. Beau Liam's juvenile filly Lanaluah had captured the Texas Thoroughbred Association Futurity July 5. Sent as a 6-1 choice on the all-weather surface, Border Czar broke smartly and settled between horses in the second flight but well behind the :22.17 pace. With rider Rafael Hernandez sitting quietly confident until the turn, the bay tipped...

Earhart Soars To 'TDN Rising Star' Status In Woodbine Unveiling

When you spend €1,400,000 on a yearling at Arqana Deauville's August Yearling Sale, there are expectations. Safe to say, Earhart (Fr) (Siyouni {Fr}) met those and then some to become a new 'TDN Rising Star' in her Saturday unveiling over the synthetic surface at Woodbine for LNJ Foxwoods and trainer Josie Carroll. The grey daughter of leading French stallion Siyouni, slammed into the 6-5 favorite's roll in what seemed even on paper to be an overmatched group, never let this field have a shot. Breaking from the middle of the...

Omaha Beach's Caitlinhergrtness Beats The Boys In the King's Plate

Perhaps done in by a two-week turnaround when just beaten in the July 20 Woodbine Oaks, Siena Farm and WinStar Farm's Caitlinhergrtness (Omaha Beach) proved possibly the biggest beneficiary of the six-day postponement of the C$1-million King's Plate, clawing her way past heavily favored My Boy Prince (Cairo Prince) in the final 40 yards. The $375,000 OBS April breezer was off at 9-1 in the King's Plate--a race in which the fillies had more than held their own against their male counterparts--and took up a forward position from between horses...

Heavily bet down to 2-5 going for his second straight graded-stakes win, the 4-year-old wasted no time going right for the lead and assumed command a path off the rail ahead of Carrothers (Mshawish).
