Charlatan's Easy Decision Off The Mark In Aqueduct Maiden

EASY DECISION (c, 3, Charlatan--All Laced Up, by Bernardini) was unveiled as the 9-5 choice here. The chalk initially took on longshot pacesetter Lord King (King for a Day), but was reigned in to stalk up the backstretch. Taking aim at the leader and Complex Charlie (Complexity) around the far turn and into the lane, the 3-year-old was forced to tip to an outside lane. The bay became uncorked, struck the front with a furlong left and graduated by 6 1/4 lengths. Complex Charlie was the runner-up. A $120,000 buy...

Nothing Arbitrary About It: Randomized Set to Shine on Night of the Stars

When Seth Klarman stretched for a yearling filly by Nyquist at the 2021 Keeneland September Sale, he paid $460,000, which trainer Chad Brown said was, "at the top end of what he goes for for yearlings." That filly, Randomized, went on to earn four times that amount on the track and now figures to be one of the star attractions at the November 3 Fasig-Tipton Night of the Stars when she sells as hip 137 in the EliTE consignment. "She was one of our top picks at the sale," recalled...

Gun Song Upsets The Beldame

Friday's GII Beldame Stakes, scratched down to just four horses with the morning diversion of Majestic Oops (Majestic Harbor) to Sunday's GIII Delaware Handicap, still had plenty of drama as 9-2 shot Gun Song (Gun Runner) sprung the upset on heavily-favored Randomized (Nyquist) to break a winless streak that dated back over a year. Mark Hennig's 4-year-old filly has been plenty game and plenty consistent facing the best of her division the past two years, even running reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna) to the wire just...

Friday's Beldame Runs Through Randomized

Friday's GII Beldame Stakes at Aqueduct drew a compact field of five led by the wide-drawn Randomized (Nyquist) who looks to get back on track after a less-than stellar finish, winding up sixth and well beaten behind Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna) as the early speed in the GI Personal Ensign at the Spa Aug. 23. Dangerous on the front if left alone however, the Klaravich Stables-owned 5-year-old will try and repeat the effort that saw her wire the GIII Molly Pitcher Stakes two back July 19...

Power Play: Fasig-Tipton Digital Buy Malarchuk After 'Celly' Out West

Dubbed a 'celly' in hockey parlance--short for the celebration that comes after a goal--the Thoroughbred version takes place in the winner's circle where power plays and fist pumps are also welcome. For those investors looking to ride the nearest glass elevator by punching the button that reads 'Up and Out', logging on the Fasig-Tipton Digital platform is one way to pursue a creditable Horse of Racing Age on the make. Fasig-Tipton's July auction, which just wrapped online a week ago, once again offered potential owners the chance to win now...

The Empire Finally Strikes Back As Dorth Vader Upsets 'WAYI' Ogden Phipps

Rail-drawn Florida-bred Dorth Vader (Girvin) stepped up against the highly-touted Chad Brown-trained duo of Raging Sea (Curlin) and Randomized (Nyquist) to conquer the "Win and You're In" GI Ogden Phipps Stakes, stamping a ticket to the GI Breeders' Cup Distaff at Del Mar this November. Making her third start off a significant layoff, Dorth Vader entered 2025 with something to prove. She hadn't won since t he...

Bramlage Examines Thorpedo Anna, Can't Find Anything Wrong

In an effort to find out why 2024 Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna (Fast Anna) ran so poorly in the GI Fasig-Tipton La Troienne S. Friday at Churchill Downs, trainer Kenny McPeek sent her to be examined by Dr. Larry Bramlage at the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital. Thorpedo Anna finished seventh and last. Content to watch the action unfold in fifth as her stablemate Randomized (Nyquist) went loose on the lead by way of traffic behind her, Raging Sea was spared a lot of the inside drama when Dorth Vader (Girvin)...
