Gulfstream Friday Racing Canceled Due To Severe Thunderstorms

Heavy rain and a forecast for continued thunderstorms throughout the afternoon caused Gulfstream Park to cancel the balance of its nine-race program following Friday's second race out of an abundance of caution for horses, horsemen and fans, 1/ST Racing said via a press release on Friday. Initially, overnight rain Thursday forced each of Friday's three races scheduled for the turf to be moved to the all-weather Tapeta course. Thunderstorms Force Gulfstream To Cancel Rest Of Sunday Card

A severe thunderstorm bringing heavy rain and lightning through the area caused Gulfstream Park to cancel its final five races Sunday out of an abundance of caution for horses, horsemen and fans, 1/ST Racing said in a press release on Sunday afternoon. The decision was made following a lengthy weather delay prior to sixth race with steady rain forecast into early evening. Exactas, Trifectas and Superfectas were refunded. The Sunshine meet will resume Friday with a nine-race program.

Friday Power Outage Forces Tampa Cancellation, Aqueduct Abandons Monday Card Due to High Winds

A power outage right before the sixth race Sunday afternoon forced Tampa Bay Downs to cancel the remainder of their card while Aqueduct pre-emptively abandoned the Monday fixture in advance of forecasted high winds. The first reported issues Sunday at Tampa Bay Downs occurred shortly before the start of the sixth race when the power went off as the horses were behind the gate. Colonial Downs Cancels Friday Racing on Account of Severe Weather

With severe weather and excessive rainfall expected to continue to make its way through the New Kent area, Colonial Downs has cancelled live racing for Friday, July 12. A plan for rescheduling the missed races will be provided by Colonial Downs as soon as it is available and all ticket purchases for Friday will be refunded. The track does expect a full card of live racing for Saturday, July 13.

Severe Weather Delays Start of Keeneland January Finale

Due to a tornado warning issued for Jessamine and Fayette Counties--including Lexington and surrounding towns--the start of the fourth and final session of the Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale was delayed this morning, and got underway around 10:40 a.m., 40 minutes after its scheduled start time. According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located eight miles west of Richmond, Kentucky, moving in an eastward direction at 55 mph. Storm Eunice Forces Cancellations in UK/Ire

The approach of Storm Eunice, which will impact Ireland and the United Kingdom on Friday, has caused some racecourses to cancel their cards as a precautionary measure.
