Coolmore Buys Shadwell Farm for $50m in Kentucky

Coolmore has bought 1,100 acres of land from Shadwell Farm in Kentucky for close to $50-million, according to a source. TDN understands the deal has been completed. Shadwell was owned by the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, brother of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The farm lies close to Ashford Stud, Keeneland Racecourse and its sale grounds, Lexington Blue Grass Airport, and Calumet Farm.

Shadwell Stallions Intidab And Kayrawan Both Euthanized At Old Friends

Intidab (Phone Trick) and Kayrawan (Mr. Prospector), both graded-stakes winning stallions previously owned by Shadwell Farm, were euthanized due to the infirmities of old age, Old Friends announced Tuesday. Intidab was euthanized at the age of 32 on Jan. 23 while Kayrawan was euthanized at the age of 33 on Jan. 25. Dozen Term Scholarships Awarded By Horse Farm Workers' Educational Assistance Fund

Twelve students of full-time horse farm workers are pursuing higher education this year with help of the Horse Farm Workers' Educational Assistance Fund, the non-profit said in a Friday release. Qualifying parents of scholars must be employed full-time for at least three years by one of the following central Kentucky Thoroughbred farms: Benson Farm, Betz Thoroughbreds, Godolphin, Hermitage, Shadwell Farm, Shawhan Place Farm and WinStar Farm. Albertus Maximus Dies

Albertus Maximus (Albert the Great--Chasethewildwind, by Forty Niner), winner of the 2008 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile, died following a paddock accident. The 18-year-old stallion was recently pensioned to Old Friends Thoroughbred Retirement from Shadwell's Nashwan Stud. Racing in Sheikh Hamdan's colors, Albertus Maximus also won the 2009 GI Donn H.
