Epsom Honours HH Aga Khan IV in Naming of 2025 Derby

The Betfred Derby will this year be run in memory of HH Aga Khan IV. The spiritual leader of the world's Ismaili Muslims died on February 4 at the age of 88.  From Shergar's imperious romp in 1981 to Harzand's victory in partnership with the late Pat Smullen in 2016, the Aga Khan won the Epsom Classic five times with homebreds, including Shahrastani (1986), Kahyasi (1988), and Sinndar (2000), who went on to win the Irish Derby and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. He also won last year's Betfred...

'In a Class of His Absolute Own': Tributes Flow for HH Aga Khan IV

It is plain to see that the Aga Khan Studs are in excellent hands, but the passing of His Highness the Aga Khan IV nevertheless signals the end of one of the most significant chapters in the long and storied history of Thoroughbred breeding. During his 65-year tenure at the head of the Aga Khan Studs, he presided over a prolonged period of growth, both in the stature and size of the operation, which was consolidated and expanded by the acquisition of stock from other major breeders. Oxx Reflects On His Best

One day after announcing his retirement from training, John Oxx opened up about the decision to Sky Sports Racing and reflected on a few of the best he has handled. "It's not something you decide to do overnight--it's been on our mind for a few years," Oxx said. "Now seems the right time as we don't really have enough horses to justify keeping going. It was a pretty easy decision to make as you have to have a viable business. "Trainers love to keep going, of course--we like what we...

John Oxx To Retire From Training

This year we have become accustomed to things becoming very different. Few readers of this publication will be able to recall such a situation, but even for those whose racing memories are restricted to some or all of the 42 seasons in...

He was my first winner of the Epsom Derby and I used to ride him out in the mornings. When you see what Sakhee (Bahri) did the following year, that kind of proves how good he was. He was only beaten once as...
